Sulfur gas-phase abundance in dense cores

چکیده

The abundance of volatile sulfur in dense clouds is long-standing problem studies the physics and chemistry star-forming regions. Sulfur an important species because its low ionization potential may possibly make it charge carrier. observed sulfur-bearing gas-phase represent only a minor fraction cosmic abundance, which has been interpreted as signature depletion into ices at surface dust grains. However, atomic sulfur, could be main carrier, cannot directly cold cores. We present measurements nitrogen sulfide (NS) radical toward four cores performed with IRAM-30m telescope. Analytical chemical considerations models over wide parameter space show that NS:N2H+ ratio provides direct constraint on sulfur. Toward early-type cores, we find $n(\rm S)/n_{\rm H}$ close, or even equal, to 14$\times 10^{-6}$, demonstrating not depleted atomic, agreement models. More chemically evolved by factors up 100 their densest parts. In L1544, shown increase increasing density. Future observations are needed discover solid-phase carrier initial steps collapse pre-stellar high regime also need explored from dynamical perspectives.

The Ionization Fraction in Dense Molecular Gas Ii: Massive Cores

We present an observational and theoretical study of the ionization fraction in several massive cores located in regions that are currently forming stellar clusters. Maps of the emission from the J = 1 → 0 transitions of CO, DCO, N2H, and HCO, as well as the J = 2 → 1 and J = 3 → 2 transitions of CS, were obtained for each core. Core densities are determined via a large velocity gradient analys...

Oxygen Gas Phase Abundance Revisited

We present new measurements of the interstellar gas-phase oxygen abundance along the sight lines towards 19 early-type galactic stars at an average distance of 2.6 kpc. We derive O I column densities from HST/STIS observations of the weak 1355 Å intersystem transition. We derive total hydrogen column densities [N(H I)+2N(H2)] using HST/STIS observations of Lyman-α and FUSE observations of molec...

Dense “ cores ” in Taurus

The interstellar medium is highly dynamic and turbulent. However, little or no attention has been paid in the literature to the implications that this fact has on the validity of at least six common assumptions on the virial theorem (VT), which are as follows. (i) The only role of turbulent motions within a cloud is to provide support against collapse; (ii) the surface terms are negligible comp...

Electron Abundance in Protostellar Cores

The determination of the fractional electron abundance, xe, in protostellar cores relies on observations of molecules, such as DCO, HCO and CO, and on chemical models to interpret their abundance. Studies of protostellar cores have revealed significant variations of xe from core to core within a range 10 < xe < 10 . The physical origin of these large variations in xe is not well understood, unl...

Coherent Dense Cores

In a study of the velocity dispersion of molecular gas in maps of four dense cores, we Ðnd that : 3 (1) within the interiors of dense cores, the line widths are roughly constant at a value slightly but signiÐcantly higher than a purely thermal line width ; and (2) at the edges of the maps of the dense cores, it appears that the line width starts to increase. We suggest that these dense cores ar...
